After hosting my first tea party, I've been thinking about how to do it right. Today I started the hunt at a local antique mall. Unfortunately, every teacup and saucer I loved were over $60.
While I was there I started noticing the fancy hats, gloves, spoons, pots, creamers, and sugar bowls. I started feeling like a little girl again...the one who loved tea parties and dressing up. Now that I have a base knowledge its time to really start hunting. I'll be scouring antique stores and secondhand stores for tea things and proper "tea wear".
I will have to ask Mr. Wonderful to either build or help me figure out a way to store or display said items. Tea things are not the normal way I decorate (not flowery, frilly, or chintzy) but I am so looking forward to starting this collection.
Especially the gloves and hats. I love gloves and hats. Never wear them. Just adore them.
Still collecting recipes. If you know of any good ones, please send them my way. I will have my mom, mother-in-love, and possibly nieces over in two weeks and I'd like to do this again.

If you want the fancy-pants teacups and saucers on the cheap, hie ye to a thrift store. Most of my current cups and saucers and my favorite sugar bowl were thrifted; on average, each cup and saucer set cost $6. I think you would be hard pressed to tell which ones came from the thrift store, and which were inherited from my grandma.
When I was living in Oregon, the local Goodwill and St. Vincent de Paul stores were especially good places to dig for tea treasures; your mileage will probably vary.
I have so many tea cups from my grandmother. I will never use all of them. If you like I will post a picture of a few and you could let the love magnet pick one out. I love when I see Mom's doing things with their kids. You are a super mom.
Wow, thanks! You are so generous (and much more of a supermom than I could ever be - I don't go hiking with my kids.....yet)
Sooz, DI didn't have anything today but I will check Good Will and St. Vincent soon. I did find a cup and saucer for $5 and a cookie tray for $10 today at TJMAXX. I will post pics soon.
I will post them for you later today.
Another good source, other than smithnation's (which is the best ever!) is this place:

they have sets of six for $24.50 which are not bad.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
