Share your favorite hymn

Nana at Musings By Me has blogged about enjoying singing hymns from hymn books. So I wanted to share my favorite hymn. You can listen to it here.

I Know That My Redeemer Lives

I know that My Redeemer Lives.
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives who once was dead.
He lives, my ever living head.
He lives to bless me with His love.
He lives to plead for me above.
He lives my hungry soul to feed.
He lives to bless in time of need.

He lives to grant me rich supply.
He lives to guide me with His eye.
He lives to comfort me when faint.
He lives to hear my soul's complaint.
He lives to silence all my fears.
He lives to wipe away my tears.
He lives to calm my troubled heart.
He lives all blessing to impart.

He lives, my kind, wise heavenly Friend.
He lives and loves me to the end.
He lives, and while He lives, I'll sing.
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.
He lives and grants me daily breath.
He lives, and I shall conquer death.
He lives, my mansion to prepare.
He lives to bring me safely there.

He lives! All glory to His name!
He lives, my Savior still the same.
Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives:
"I know that my Redeemer lives!"
He lives! All glory to His name!
He lives, my Savior still the same.
Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives:
"I know that my Redeemer lives!"

This song perfectly expresses my testimony of my Savior. I sing it as lullaby to my children, as a song to comfort me when I'm down, and as a song to strengthen my testimony of Jesus Christ.

Please share with me your favorite hymn, and which hymnbook it is in. I started a collection of hymnbooks years ago and I love adding new ones.

I can't pick just one. I have lots and lots (and we don't sing hymns enough anymore, IMO). But two that are at the top of my list right now are "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness". Both of them are about trusting in God through the worst kinds of storms, and the promises that He will not fail us.

I cry every time I sing the fourth (and last) verse to It Is Well:

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend,
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, O my soul!

I think it's the bit about faith becoming sight. Faith, I think, isn't about a feeling you have, but a decision you make. Over and over and over. And one day, I won't have to do that anymore. I'll just be able to see.

Can't hardly wait. (That's modern vernacular for "haste the day.")

Maybe not my absolute favorite but one I have listened to and am greatly touched by is "Come Thou Font of Every Blessing" Go to UTUBE and listen to the BYU chorus sign this. It is not just the words or the music but the video is beautiful.

My favorite old timey hymn is Lead Kindly Light which is no longer in our hymnbook (boo!)

Current favorite: I Believe in Christ.

I used to enjoy singing "Love at Home," but ever since my dad died I've had trouble making it through the lyrics "Oh, there's one who smiles on high/When there's love at home." Hits a little too close to home.

Possibly it's "Come, Thou Fount of Ev'ry Blessing" (my personal favorite for Most Likely to Be Included in the Next Hymnal), as the yearning sound of the music perfectly matches the lyrics:

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love--
Here's my heart; O, take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.
