What's your bike like?

I am researching bikes for a purchase for me. I was originally considering comfort bikes (no triathlons or races for me). The bike will be mainly used for rides with the kids and trip to the grocery store. I plan on having some kind of seat for DD or a trailer that will hold DD and/or groceries.

What kind of bike do you have. Do you like it or do you want something different? Share your knowledge, please. I am completely clueless. I'm planning on a trip to a bike store today or tomorrow to talk to a sales person and get some ideas.

I added you to my blog roll - hope you don't mind.

I am currently looking for a bike too. I want one so I can take my son for rides when he's older (he's only 4 months right now), and I also want one of those trailer things because I think they are COOL.

So let us know what kind of bike you decide on!

I bought a bike at Target recently. Its a Schwinn, I think. I went to the bike store and they had some sweet bikes, but at $300 I worried about them getting stolen when I left them locked up on campus. The bikes tore people are really knowledgeable, but Target was way cheaper, so I guess it depends on your budget. You'll definitely get more knowledgeable customer service/repair help at the bike store.

I got a beach cruiser for Christmas that is soooooo cute but I am embarrassed to say that I STILL haven't actually taken it out on a ride. They are supposed to be very comfortable but with only 3 speeds may not be practical for driving around town. My sis in law has a trek cruiser that she loves and it doesn't have such the 'beach' still of mine. Good luck! I think with gas prices continually rising that we will all be on bikes or scooters soon! So glad to see DD with a big smile again! :)

I have found that the bigger and softer the seat, the better. The rest of the bike is just metal. You've got to be comfortable!

Because I love you, I just got up off my lazy behind and went into the garage and looked. :)

I have a Trek hybrid or crossover or whatever they're calling it these days. It has a nice big cushy seat (because my bottom is not so skinny as it once was, which was never that skinny in the first place), nice wide tires with a little bit of grip, and it's nearly idiot-proof. DH has one just like it, but his size. We love them - they're easy to manage on our gravel lane and iffy country roads, but they're not super mountain bike-y.

I think it was a Navigator (it's not written on it anywhere), but they're looking a little different these days than a few years ago when we got them.

(Amy says:) Care, I have a Specialized Expedition Sport (Women's) with a huge padded suede seat with springs, and I LOVE it! I named her "Prudence" because she is so meant for me. I love biking to work in the summers and even into town to go to the post office or bank.
